These People are Lying to You

So many of the people giving career advice out there are lying to you.

I said what I said.

Truly, a lot of so-called “experts” are out there pushing gimmicks: AI tools that apply to jobs for you, tricks to “beat the ATS,” cringe-worthy resume templates, and more. They don’t actually care about you. They just want your money.

My approach is different. I share job advice that’s free of gimmicks, because gimmicks don’t build careers. Sure, they might land you one quick job, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right job. You could end up overselling yourself and getting in way over your head. Or maybe you applied without even reading the job description, and now you’re stuck in a role you can’t stand. Either way, it’s a lose-lose.

Want a strong career with good companies and roles that are truly right for you? Then, friend, there’s no shortcut. You’re going to have to put in the work.

Here are a few quick truths to consider:

🚩 AI platforms that “apply to hundreds of jobs without you lifting a finger” are scams. If AI changes your resume and sends it out without your knowledge, you’re setting yourself up for disaster. Imagine a recruiter calling, and your response is: “Wait…what company are you with again?” Huge red flag.

🚩 Beating the ATS? Total myth. I’ll go deeper on this in future posts but trust me, if someone claims to have the secret, chances are they’ve never actually used an Applicant Tracking System.

🚩 Resume templates: 90% of them are bad. No photos. No flowery paragraphs about your “career journey.” No artsy swoops, graphics, or rainbow-colored fonts. Keep it clean and simple.

It kills me to see people who are desperate for a job, excited to kick off their career, or just trying to get ahead, getting scammed by these so-called experts. It’s not right.

As for me? I’d rather make less money than push some flashy, idiotic “hack” just to build an audience. If you want real help, I’ll give it, at a fair price and gimmick-free.
